Individual’s motivation and resilience & sense of belonging and sharing.
The four “sides” that support good teamwork
Over the past year, I’ve often had conversations in companies and with freelancers about the concepts of motivation and resilience, two broad themes that have always been at the heart of many people’s professional lives, but that the global pandemic has made even more relevant for those who manage or are part of a work team.
Today, more than ever, resilience and self-motivation are imperative qualities for moving in the business world.
The person becomes (finally, let me tell you) the central point of the dynamics and processes whom alone is not enough, “no man is an island” 😉,
In my experience, it is essential to add two other ingredients to the will and independence of the individual: a sense of belonging and sharing.
If you analyze the functioning of a work team the interconnection between these concepts is evident, they are different sides that together “support” the good work of a team and that if monitored and fed can yield excellent results!

The ingredients of the recipe: what makes a team smart?
Wanting to take a closer look at the processes that govern the world of work and doing so from my own experience, I can say that for me the main ingredients are:
- Responsability
- Cooperation
- Delegate
- Self-Discipline
- Organization
- Freedom
I am not going to analyze them here one by one to avoid simplifications and because I do not want to risk “emptying” these concepts, which are very dear to me, of their meaning, but there will be other opportunities to explore them further.
For the moment, I prefer to focus on two seemingly opposite aspects that actually act as glue and container for these ingredients of mine: personal motivation and sharing the goal!
Self-motivation and independence contribute to a sense of responsibility
When individual team members feel valued by their role and care about their tasks they almost unknowingly fuel their motivation, train their resilience on a daily basis, and will be prepared and responsive when faced with an unexpected setback or obstacle.
A person who is able to make the most of his or her abilities and skills is a precious resource, not only because he or she will do his or her job to the best of his or her ability, but also and above all because he or she will actively contribute to nurturing and spreading a sense of shared responsibility: the success of a project or the achievement of an aim depends on the work of everyone and each team member must always be aware of this.
If this sounds like just “nice words” I urge you to give it a try, you won’t regret it!
